Angel Box Creation for Prayer Cards Using IOD Wings and Feather Mould

Updated: Feb 29, 2024

I wanted to show you I made this angel box to hold my angel cards, oracle clothe and crystals. I used IOD’s Wings and feather mould using air dry clay. I bought these moulds at Sweet and Sassy Treasures in Shelby Twp, MI and they do ship, so check them out! I sprayed the wings with Ranger Inks ink spray using Rose Quarts and Crushed Grape. I first put a coat of white gesso on to make sure that the ink didn’t soak in too much to the wings. I used the heat gun to dry the ink and speed up the process and I went over the edges with white paint to soften up the edges so that they looked more like feathers.

I used a box I had on hand which I first painted with the white gesso to cover the wording that was on the box. Then I went over the gesso with a mixture of white and pink acrylic paint. I wanted to create a soft pink color. I painted the whole box inside and out and dried with the heat gun.

I got my inspiration from the Angel Guide Oracle deck that Kyle Gray created, and the artwork was done by Jason McCreadie and the specific card I was inspired by is the Archangel Gabriel Card. I love the pink and purple colors and the jewels around her face and how soft and feminine it is.

I then used corner pieces that are also in the wings and feather mould. I covered with gesso. I also used the IOD lock and key mould.

I wanted to place something underneath the wings, so I used cheesecloth which I pulled apart a little to make it a little fluffier.

I sprayed the corners and the keyhole with Ranger Inks color funky fuchsia. And I brushed lightly with white paint to pull some of the detail out.

I wanted to decorate the inside of the box too so I sprayed with the funky fuchsia ink and kind of spread it out with the heat gun. I also decided to place some more of the cheesecloth inside to soften things up a bit. So I sprayed some more ink on the cheese cloth and then glued it down after it was dry.

I glued the corners on using Titebond Quck and Thick Glue and I decided I wanted to add a little bling, so I grabbed some of jewels that come in a sheet that already has adhesive on the back and pressed them on the box. I then glued the cheesecloth underneath the wings and then glue the wings on top.

For the keyhole, I just center it on the front of the box and glued it on then added some more jewels.

The feathers are the same ink color as the wings, which is rose quartz and crushed grape. I then glued these on the inside of the box lid. I added some more color to the inside of the box, then I softened it up a bit with white paint and dry . I used my cameo to cut out this angel prayer and place it on the inside between the feathers. This was pretty tedious as the lettering is so small and it kept wanting to lift up.

This is kind of a work in progress, just doing what looks and feels good to me. I wanted to create some texture on the sides so I used a thick amount of paint, then drying just a bit and use the vine from IOD’s stamp set called Queen Bee. I press it on the thick, semi-wet paint and hope that it makes a nice impression. I did this to both sides and I really like how it turned out. I then decided to add a little texture to the front of the box.

I added a little more white to the castings, made sure they were dry then, cover all the castings with modge podge to give it some protection.

I really enjoyed making this and am happy I have one place to store all my angel cards and other accessories. If you want to see a video of how I created this angel box, click here!
